One-time session guitarist, recording engineer, mixer, songwriter, producer, and touring band leader at Stax from the late 60s, Bobby Manuel has worked with a list of legends including Isaac Hayes, Al Green, Rufus Thomas, Anne Peebles and more. Soul Sauce is his first foray into making his own record and the hallmarks of all that knowledge and experience are on show here. ‘Soulsauce #9’ has a mambo swagger coupled with southern funk and Latin, J Blackfoot joins him on one of the few vocal cuts to cover the classic ‘never Found A Girl’ while the blues-funk ‘Icy Cold Hands’ and ‘Dr Groove’ have a Memphis feel. The kind of album that will appeal to people into southern guitar-lead blues-soul with, at times, a funky, Latin twist.
