Bobby Hutcherson’s ‘Medina’ is an outstanding album recorded in 1969 includes a stellar lineup comprised of Stanley Cowell, Reggie Johnson, Joe Chambers and Harold Land. Previously unreleased, this album came first out on a Japanese CD in 1980. It sits on the heavier side of Hutcherson’s work and features two originals each from Chambers, Cowell, and Hutcherson. Each track brings with it its own compositional complexities and deftness typifying much of the music of the period. An open and adventurous record that still sounds fresh in the present day.
