Doug Carn recorded four great albums for the Black Jazz label in the early 70s. The best tracks are featured on this fabulous compilation featuring 14 great slices of funky spiritual jazz.
Then wife Jean Carn was the featured vocalist on three of the albums and can be heard on their version of Bobby Hutcherson’s ‘Little B’s Poem’ John Coltrane unsurpassable ‘Acknowledgement’ from Love Supreme and ‘Naima’ , ‘Revelation’ and ‘Power and Glory’ illustrating what a great Jazz singer she was before she joined Philly International.and went ultra soulful. ‘Trance Dance’ is an incredibly intense jazzy shifter. There are many tracks from Doug’s strongest album ‘Adams Apple’ including ‘Higher Ground’, ‘Chant’, ‘Western Sunrise’ and the very funky organ groover ‘The Messenger’
