Newban were the mid 70’s powerhouse Funky and jazzy Soul band from which Atlantic Starr evolved. Their two excellent albums have their own feel and contain great tracks like the Brassy Funky Instrumental ‘Father Time’, the flute backed mid tempo groover ‘Greenburgh’, jazzier ‘Free Your Mind’, two stepper ‘Hungry Grin’ and their all-time classic ‘Why Did You Desert Me’. Sharon Bryant leads on excellent ‘Central Park’ and ‘Mellow Days Easy Nights’. One of the best reissues of the year.
