The Documents label series of 10 CD box sets continue to deliver fine value for money. In this instance, it is their second venture into the earlier part of the Blue Note label’s extensive back catalogue. Seventeen albums in total that includes some real gems such as saxophonist’s J R Monterose’s self-titled set from 1956, Walter Davis Jr’s brilliant Hard Bop outing ‘Davis Cup’ and Leo Parker’s little known ‘Let Me Tell You Bout It’. There are also some very obscure sets such as Urbie Green’s ‘New Faces – New Sounds’, ‘Here Comes Louis Smith’ and the ‘Julius Watkins Sextet’ first album and all for around the same money s one full price CD!
