This eighteen track journey through the world of obscure 70s funky soul takes us in all manner of directions in what will be a voyage of (new) discovery for some. Tramp Records have mined a deep furrow to unearth some rarities here: Silky Vincent’s homespun disco ‘Missing You’ is an excellent slab of indie boogie, Keither Florence’s soaring, cosmic soul ‘Future’ is has gained widespread interest in the past years while Afrodesia’s ‘Fool No Longer’ is basically an urgent work-message song set to a funky backing. Mel-O-Madnezz’s superb ‘Beautiful Day’ is slightly shambolic but charming ultra rare original from the same guys who did ‘Save The Youth’, Progressive Sounds Band borrow from ‘Grazing In The Grass’ for the pacey guitar and organ lead ‘Dig This Piece’, Steve Toll’s jazzy funker ‘The Freeze’ is a tightly compressed dancer while The Tam’s in demander ‘This Precious Moment’ is a minor key soulful winner. Good varied comp that brings to light a lot of buried treasure.
