Saxophonist Najee’s music encompasses mid 80’s Fusion and modern day Smooth Jazz incoporating urban elements along the way. ‘Center Of The Heart’ is Najee’s 16th studio album that span 33 years. Now 62, Najee’s playing retains a youthful vigour. ‘Bella Vista’ opens the set in mellow Fusion style with Najee on flute. There are strong covers of Maxwell’s ‘Sumthin Sumthin’ and the Bacharach/ David penned ‘Alfie’. Kenny Lattimore adds an archtypal vocal on the RnB tinged ‘Better’ and the Hip Hop flavoured ‘One Note Love’ features the Smooth Jazz legend’s son Superb Clawson. There are several smooth gems including ‘Face To Face’, ‘The Way She Moves’ and ‘Speak Love’, that contribute to a very fine album that will appeal to the many Najee’s fans.
