In 1965, Lee Morgan was at his peak recording a succession of great albums for Blue Note. ‘Cornbread’ is one of them and features a stellar line-up including Herbie Hancock, Jackie McLean and Hank Mobley. The title song is strident upbeat piece of Soul Jazz a la ‘The Sidewinder’. ‘Our Man Higgins’ dedicated to the session’s drummer Billy is another powerful 60’s piece. ‘Most Like Lee’ is another barnstormer, the chemistry between the horns and indeed Hancock on piano is something to behold. Five star Blue Note album.
