1975 release on the Austin, Texas Fable imprint this is part of Jazzman’s ‘Holy Grail’ series and is limited to 1000 copies. Long held up by collector’s as a prize asset this free, spacey, excursion through the many shades of jazz kicks off with the sometimes mellow, sometimes loosely improvised ‘Weed Hopper’ before the thumping ‘March of The Goober Woobers’ bring a more Headhunters vibe to proceedings. ‘Jig’ verges on jazz-rock in places but soon branches out into more cosmic territory, ‘Halyards’ is a rapid fire jazz funker while the superb ‘Cumulo Nimbus’ is a post-bop gem that builds slowly before being driven by a cooking B-line and some searing horns. Brilliant stuff.
