A seemingly endless stash of Dave Hamilton productions continues to be unearthed by Ace who again select both released and canned gems on “Dave Hamilton’s Detroit Soul Vol 2”. Little Ann’s funky ‘I Gotta Have You’ is superb, the Tokays ‘(Marriage Is Only) A State Of Mind’ is dark and moody, ‘Challenge My Love’ by Tobi Lark is an indemand northern side, The Morning After’s ‘Mister Fireman’ is a good dancer while ‘Must Have Had Company’ from Elayne Starr is a kind of super stripped back proto-disco cut that sounds like it was born in a basement on a budget: totally atmospheric! The Prophet & His Disciples’ ‘You Fool, You Fool’ is a rare funker originally on Presco while Hamilton recycles the groove from his own Billy Garner production on ‘When I Say Groove’.
