Roy Ayers is one of Jazz Funk’s legendary figures. From the early seventies when ‘We Live In Brooklyn Baby’ and ‘Pretty Brown Skin’ combined the James Brown influenced funk with more eclectic West Coast psychedelic music to his more Jazz Disco material like ‘Sweet Tears’ and ‘Can’t You See Me’, Ayers was prolific. This 33 track, double CD is in essence an anthology of Roy’s Polydor work and covers the period 1970 to 1982. Alongside the Jazz Funk, there are some soulful moments especially on his cover of Bobby Caldwell’s ‘What You Won’t Do For Love, which is the ultimate version of this classic.
