Originally compiled and released in 1975 this collection is interesting to look back on as it focused on what must have been relatively obscure releases of the time. Hudson County’s ‘Bim Sala Bim’ is a perennial favourite, as is Con-Funk-Shun’s ‘Clique’. Lillian Hale’s pacey ‘Don’t Boom Boom’ which Brother Soul’s ‘Cookies’ has long been a funk favourite among the Acid Jazz/Rare Groove crowd. Marboo’s ‘What About Love’ is a sought after soulful uptempo dancer that no doubt had ambitions on NY disco floors at the time, Gap Band’s bustling, Jazzy ‘Tommy Groove’ sounds fresh while Breakwater’s ‘No Limit’ and Tasha Thomas’ ‘Stay With Me’ always sound good.
