24 Slices of Underground Chicago soul from the late 60’s and early 70’s from the Nickel and Penny labels, presented superbly on CD in the popular Eccentric soul series. Jerry Townes so soulful voice resonates from the mid tempo ‘Just Say The Word’, ballad ‘Three Sides To A Triangle’ and the up-tempo ‘Little Love Maker’. The Novells ‘Why Do You Wanna Make Me Sad’ and ‘Without You’ are good 60’s ballads, and Little Ben and the Cheers stomper ‘I’m Gonna Get Even With You’ is another 60’s highlight. Halleluiah Chorus ‘I’ve Got To Find Away’ is great 70’s harmony soul, along with the mid tempo South Shore Commission ‘Shadows’ and Sidney Barnes ‘Ember Song’ and the funky soul of Brothers and Sisters ‘Don’t Let Them Tell You’
