Strong 20 track collection of tracks that have gained further exposure in recent times on the new wave of the so called ‘modern soul’ scene that took its cue from UK DJs and branched out to Europe and the US. Many highlights here: Donell Pitman’s ‘Love Explosion’ (influenced by Ripple’s ‘The Beat Goes On’, Rokk’s now classic ‘Patience’ and the recently unearthed 94 East ‘If You See Me’ are prime examples of the funky soul sound while crossover gems like Elvin Spencer’s ‘Lift This Hurt’, El Anthony’s ‘That’s What My Lady Says’ and The Summits’ ‘I’ll Never Say No’ are exemplary. Wee’s ‘Try me’ Mind And Matter’s ‘I’m Under Your Spell’ and Cosmos Universal Band’s impossible original ‘Third Eye’ are prime private press late 70’s gems. Superb collection.
