Highly talented trio Mammal Hands comprise drums/percussion, bass and saxophones and with ‘Floa’ they have created an album of textures that combines jazz with a cinematic soundscape on their debut for Gonwanda Records. The similarities to equally impressive GoGo Penguin are there but Mammal Hands have a more classical/expansive feel in their music, typified by the simply awesome ‘Quiet Fire’, ‘Hourglass’ and ‘The Eyes That Saw The Mountain’. ‘Think Anything’ and ‘Shift’ both have that ever busy, skittering beat that verges on broken while the piano and sax also fight for dominance. Fans of Matthew Halsall, GoGo Penguin and Floating Points will love this. There’s also elements that will appeal the Theo Croker and Kamasai Washington heads, too. The Jazz is taking over!
