Former Light Of The World/Beggar & Co man Kenny Wellington has produced a really strong album of grooves that bear the influences of his past projects while also tipping a hat to horn players of the golden era of Jazz fusion: Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, eddie Henderson, Chuck Mangione and Miles Davis among others. ‘Heading Home’ is a built around a simple vocal refrain that recalls Byrd, ‘Free Spirit’ has a Henderson vibe, ‘Dreaming Of Futures Bright’ sounds straight out of NY circa ’78 while ‘You Can Run (But You Sure Can’t Hide) again sounds like a long lost seventies fusion classic. So many highlights on a superb album – a must for fans of classic fusion!
