From 1973 ‘Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation’ finds The Dells on top form, vocally and musically and again Charles Stepney is at the helm to guide the ship. The emphatic title track is a no-holds barred, soaring celebration, their take of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ has a wonderfully sparse, percussive feel, the warm ballad ‘Stand Up And Show The World’ is a highlight as is the breezy ‘Soul Strollin’. The gentle, almost crossover groove of ‘Closer’ is also a standout.
