Clarinettist and saxophonist Eddie Daniels pays tribute to Brazilian composer and guitarist/ pianist Egberto Gismonti. 12 of the 13 tracks were originally composed and released whilst Gismonti was signed to EMI in the 70’s/ 80’s. Daniels is backed by a 3-piece rhythm section plus the Harlem Quartet (strings). The music is light and delightful with emphasis on melody some of which are quite intricate with touches of classical music added for good measure. There are also hints of Jazz/ Pop standards in those melodies e.g. ‘Freedom Jazz Dance’. In The only Daniels original ‘Tango Bossa’, a mix of Argentinian Tango and Bossa Nova’ is a highlight. ‘Heart Of Brazil’ is an album that does not hit immediately but rewards repeated listening. A grower.
