Killiam Shakespeare is a Philadelphia based collective formed by the respected Snarky Puppy keyboardist Corey Barnard, Drummer Steve McKie and vocalist Chris Turner. They are joined by many guest musicians and vocalists to great a strong Jazz and Jazzy Soul debut album. ‘Stars’ is a nice atmospheric Neo-Soul mid tempo groover ft Ebony Joi on vocals. Noel Scales adds her seductive vocals to ‘I’m Down’ another mid tempo song. . Jennah Bell (daughter of Kool & the Gang Ronald) displays here powerful voice on ‘Waste My Time’, whilst Chris Turner display his Marvin-esq voice on the wonderful‘21st Century’ another highlight. Of the instrumentals the Mizell inspired ‘Thickmiss’ has a wonderful feel, the keyboard led ‘To Live and Die in the East’ is more uptempo and intriguing, and ‘Jean Baptiste’ has a Bossa-ish groove. If you like Snarky Puppy nd other inventive new Jazz/Soul Jazz this is definitely a strong album for you.
