From 1977 on the ever perplexing Guiness imprint this solo effort from Exits frontman James (Jimmy) Conwell (who also recorded ‘Cigarette Ashes’ under the alias Richard Temple) is a great, seldom heard collection of Conwell’s work that deserves more attention. The superb mid tempo dancer ‘L-O-V-E’ is a great, catchy mover, the smooth harmonies of ‘I’m So Glad’ really lift the track while ‘Butterfly’ is a thumping falsetto gem. ‘Indian Giver’ is a funky up tempo number, The Exits’ ‘Another Sundown In Watts’ and ‘Gotta Have Money’ also appear, the crashing ‘Let It All Out’ is a tremendous beat ballad while the pleading ‘Second Hand Happiness’ is a winner. The sublime stepper ‘mellow Mellow Me’ written by Leonard Jewel and credited to James Nelson (surely Conwell under yet another alias?) also features here. That track would again resurface on an early 90s 12” single credited to Jimi Conwell with slightly different backing. Phew!
