Frank McComb takes the bold step of covering material of perhaps his greatest influence and in the hands (and voice) of others attempting a similar feat the results could be less than successful. Fortunately Frank’s approach is to position himself next to rather than over the top of Hathaway’s work and the results speak for themselves. ‘Love, Love, Love’ taken into different directions as is ‘Someday We’ll All Be Free’ all the time ebbing and flowing between familiar and unexpected. ‘Flying Free’, ‘You Were Meant For Me’ and the medley ‘A Song For You/For All We Know’ also follow a similar path. An unreleased 90s song that McComb wrote for Donny also features in the form of ‘We’’l Carry Your Name On’. Surely a must for fans of both artists.
