1975 album from Betty Davis that proved to be her biggest hit, ‘Nasty Gal’ is a funked up, freaked out, rough edged tour de force in sassy grooves and risqué lyrics. Betty’s often snarled and growled vocals work well with the often chaotic backing. ‘Nasty Gal’ is a throbbing mid tempo, ‘Dedicated To The Press’ is a slap bass rant against journalists while ‘You And I’ backs right off and is the calm in the middle of a funky storm. ‘F.U.N.K’ gets back to the gritty, rasping vibe of earlier with an ode to Betty’s contemporaries, ‘Shut Off The Light’ and ‘This Is It’ are almost mirror images of each other: brusque, grubby funkers with Betty growling out the lyrics, while ‘The Lone Ranger’ is a mellow, spaced out reprise at the end of the madness! Crazy stuff!
