Focussing on a two year period between 67-69, ‘Reaching Out’ explores the close relationship that Rick Hall’s Fame Studio enjoyed with Chess Records. This 24 track collection features the Swampers rhythm section and casts a spotlight on some of the lesser known Chess sides. Maurice and Mac’s soul dancer ‘So Much Love’ is a highlight, as are Laura Lee’s heartfelt ‘Good To Me’ and ‘Hang It Up’. Etta James offers the bubbling ‘Security’ among others, Bobby Moore & The Rhythm Ace’s drama filled deep-with-a-beat ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ and Mitty Collier’s crushing ‘Too Soon To Know’ are also recommended.
