Rymden (meaning Space) are a three piece jazz combo consisting of Bugge Wesseltoft (Piano & Rhodes), Magnus Öström (Drums & Percussion) and Dan Berglund (Bass). The feel here is very Scandanavian, with a mix of big, bold expressive movements and more ponderous slow numbers. The freeform fusion of ‘Pitter Patter’ contrasts with the more melancholic ‘Bergen’. The crashing ‘Rak’ brings to mind some of the more experimental work from Ropeadope while the meandering, mellow ‘The Lugubrious Youth Of Lucky Luke’ is a slow, delicate burner. Lots of ambient moments interspersed making this an album to sit and absorb gradually.
