Patti’s fourth studio album – 1980s aptly named ‘Released’ – would be her last for the Epic label before a move to Philadelphia International. ‘Give It Up’ kicks the album off firmly rooted in disco territory – no doubt an ambitious move designed to put Patti into a broader sphere. ‘Release’ is another funky, disco infused groover, whilst the standout track is probably the dancer ‘Get Ready (Looking For Love) with its plucked bassline and sharp horns. ‘Don’t Make Your Angel Cry’ and ‘I Don’t Go Shopping’ are sweet ballads. ‘Come And Dance With Me’ is a nice mid tempo swayer demonstrating the breadth of styles on this album.
