EaaaaaaaFrom 1977, this album was a bit of change of direction for Grover. Out went the orchestrated arrangements of Bob James, and in came a sparser sound courtesy of Dave Matthews’ arrangements. ‘A Secret Place’ is a wonderful mid-tempo Jazz Funk cut with our man and Dave Grusin delivering superb solos. ‘Not Yet’ has as understated intro that builds into a funky slice of Fusion. Again Grusin, Grover (on tenor) and Eric Gale share the solos, and is underpinned by Anthony Jackson’s wicked bass and Harvey Mason’s tight drumming. ‘Love Makes It Better’ is mellower, whilst Herbie Hancock’s ‘Dolphin Dance’ adds an atmospheric Jazz feel.
