From 1973 this first instalment in Roy C Hammond’s two part series, ‘Sex And Soul’ has a Hi/Fame type of vibe especially in the bright, horn heavy ‘Don’t Blame The Man’, the plaintive Southern soul of ‘Those Days Are Gone’ and ‘I Wasn’t There (But I feel The Pain). The bluesoul burn is there on ‘I’m Gonna Love Somebody Else’s Woman’ with its familiar tale of infidelity and revenge, ‘I’m Busting Rocks On The Chain Gang’ and ‘Open Letter To the President’ both have socio-political undertones while the deep soul vibe of ‘I’m Falling In Love Again’ is a highlight. Good album.
