The Sylvers were a nine piece group of brothers and sisters – based loosely around the Jackson 5 concept. Signed to Capitol they released these two albums ‘Showcase’ and ‘New Horizons’ in 1975 and 1977 respectively. Both are quite commercial, but the quality of the song writing counteracts the syrupy nature of some of the music. Tracks like ‘Storybook Girl’ and ‘Ain’t No Good In Goodbye’ illustrate the point. The Sylvers had a Disco hit with ‘Boogie Fever’. ‘New Horizons’ is the stronger set with cuts like ‘Take A Hand’, the infectious floater ‘Another Day To Love’, the riff laden ‘Charisma’ and the outstanding ‘Star Fire’.
