Superb debut album from Londoner Izo Fitzroy who possesses a voice that is both rough edged, throaty R&B and sweet, tender songbird with the flip of a note. Produced by Dr Rubberfunk’s Simon Ward the album is modern funky soul all the while seen through a filter of New Orleans vintage and a myriad of influences stirred into the brew. The album works well as a cohesive whole – hard to pick out highlights but be sure to check out the title track, a mid tempo head nodder underpinned by a sneaking groove, the tough, funky ‘Here I Come’, the sublime, catchy sunshine crossover of ‘Hope You Can Wait’, the New Orleans soul of ‘Break The Levee’ and the shimmering keys of ‘Shadowlands’. Quality throughout – don’t miss this one.
