German keyboardist and composer Thomas Motter is joined by a raft of stellar guests on his new album ‘Somewhere Out There’, including Nathan East (bass), Bill Evans (sax) Lenora Jaye (Vocals) and Karl Frierson among many others. The sassy groove of ‘Waiting’ featuring Lenora Jaye’s vocals is a lovely laid back cut, while she also shines on the multi-rhythmed ‘Moon 88’. Karl Frierson and Helen Taylor trade vocals across all segments of the ‘Call And Response Suite’, a bluesy jazz trilogy, the low slung ‘I Will Go Now’ is another vocal cut this time from Helena Paul while ‘Somewhere Out There’ is a funky, free slab of smooth fusion. Helena Paul scats well on another funky effort, the stop start groove of ‘Do’.
