Session drummer Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie released ‘Soul Is…’ in 1972 for Flying Dutchman Records. The set features mainly covers of contemporary Soul and Jazz cuts. Purdie does a fine job on the Crusaders’ ‘Put It Where You Want It’, the coupling of Marvin’s ‘What’s Going On’ and Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and Aretha’s ‘Daydreaming’. ‘Good Livin’ is a funky original as is the upbeat groove of ‘Heavy Soul Slinger’.
