56 track 2CD look at the best work of New Orleans legend Lee Dorsey ‘Soul Mine: The Greatest Hits And More’ features the 1987 Charly compilation Am I That Easy To Forget? (never previously been issued on CD) along with another 30 of his best recordings comprising almost all of his US and UK hit singles. Doresy has an instantly recognisable, affable style suited well to the positive vibe of a lot of Nawlins sound and his recordings with Allen Toussaint and The Meters bear the hallmarks of their influences. The standouts are the infectious break laden funker ‘Four Corners’, the languid classic ‘Get Out My Life Woman’, the thunderous ‘Ride Your Pony’, the massive ‘Working In A Coalmine’, the pounding ‘What You Want Is What You Get’, the heavy, Meter-esque ‘Give It Up’ and the stone cold ‘Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky (From Now On)’. Good, broad spread of Dorsey’s work both live and studio, hits and hitherto unreleased.
