The material for ‘Split Kick’ derives from two radio sessions that were recorded during his 1972 visit to Sweden. Although towards the end of his life, the sessions see Hayes in good form on the standards/ classics ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’ plus his own compositions ‘Off The Wagon’ and ‘Trenton Place’. He is also featured heavily on flute. The CD is accompanied by extensive notes from fellow saxophonist and Tubby aficionado Simon Spillett.
