Ghost-Note is the new project from Grammy Award winning artists Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth who will be known to many from their work with Snarky Puppy. The guest list on this set is incredible and includes Kamasi Washington, Nigel Hall and Karl Denson in its numbers. ‘Dry Rub’ is a tight, hard hitting slab of Sax lead funk, the spacey ‘No More Silence’ blends spoken word with an otherworldly jazz odyssey while the bright, percussive ‘Nigel Duke’ is a superb, angular slab of fusion with those cosmic keys supplied by Nigel Hall. ‘Jibble Jabble’ and ‘Nod To Dilla’ show the more hip hop side to the venture while fast paced ‘Swagism’ is an energetic storm of horn lead funky Jazz. The lighthearted ‘Milkshake’ is a rapid fire dancefloor burner, ‘Smack ‘Em’ has Johnny Guitar Watson influences while ‘Lookin’ At The World’ again resides in hip hop territory but hip hop steeped in jazz, funk and soul. Good, epic 18 track exploration across a broad soundscape.
