British tenor saxophonist Leo Richardson delivers a fine straight-ahead Jazz set that is set in a modal and Hard Bop vein. Four of the eight tracks are actually by a quintet three with trumpet and one (the modal ‘MrSkid) with an extra tenor courtesy of Alan Skidmore. Grooves like ‘The Curve’ hark back to early 60’s Blue Note and ‘Mambo’ is a joyous Latin piece. The title tune is a fast Bop cut again with a 60’s feel. The album is strong throughout. Richardson’s sax is sufficient individual but has echoes of Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and Coltrane to it. Impressive playing.
