Highly acclaimed British saxophonist Denys Baptiste pays tribute to compositions by the great John Coltrane from the later part (1963 – 67) of the legendary Jazz man’s musical career. In keeping to the more melodic elements within the pieces, Baptiste successfully maintains a balance between the individuality and uniqueness of the master’s work, and at the same time makes these works more accessible. The groove driven ‘Vigil’, ‘Ascent’ and ‘Living Space’ work especially well. A difficult task well done, Highly Recommended.
