Fans of Don-E’s distinctive style of soul with welcome the news of a new release from the British veteran and his ‘Lost Tapes EP’ features six tracks of signature sounds – mainly spacious, mid tempo grooves – laid back with old and new school soulful R&B vibes throughout, as well as a few skits that set him up as a fantasy caped crusader – a sort of soulful wild western cowboy! ‘Angel’ is a super-mellow chilled out beat ballad, ‘Fine By Me’ has nice skittering groove while ‘Shell Down’ again majors on the head nodding, finger clicking after dark soul styles. ‘Wonderful Thing’ has nice, restrained summery quality while ‘It’s Ya Birthday’ and ‘Blaqueman’ are both edging towards left field while being contemporary with vintage touches.
