Pharoah Sanders recorded his seventh album ‘Thembi’ for the Impulse album in 1971. It features a stellar line up including Lonnie Liston Smith (keys), Michael White (violin), Cecil McBee (bass) and Roy Haynes (drums) another the ten featured players. ‘Astral Traveling’ is the original recorded version of the beautiful LL Smith track, ‘Thembi’ is another lovely uplifting spiritual jazz cut , and ‘Morning Prayer’ an excellent track. I may be missing the point but he free jazz ‘Red Black and Green’ is total noise to my ears!
