New Orleans street Jazz combo the Hot 8 Brass Band are a force in the musical landscape of the Crescent City where their mix of original compositions and covers of classics have enthralled the locals for two decades. Their global presence also sees them as firm favourites across a broad fanbase and their full on, party sound has instant appeal. This 11 track collection represents remixes of their best loved works, and the Snoop Dogg referencing ‘What’s My Name’ is a good way to start. The good cover of ‘Sexual Healing’ is a highlight as is their own, full on, energy filled ‘Get Up’. The band manage to take classics like ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ and add enough of a twist to almost fashion a brand new song. The summery version of ‘Just My Imagination’ is a brief reprise from the chaotic, up tempo swirl of the previous tracks but ‘New Orleans, After The City’ ends on an apt note and an ode to their roots.
