Brazilian legend Antonio Carlos Jobim recorded and released ‘Wave’ for A&M/CTI in 1967. It is a masterpiece that fuses Brazilian themes and compositions with producer Creed Taylor’s Jazz sophistication. The string arrangements are prominent by not overpowering allowing the brilliance of Jobim’s compositions to shine. Particularly impressive are ‘Wave’, the hypnotic ‘Batidinha’ and the lovely ‘Trieste’. The album is primarily instrumental but check the infectious ‘Lamento’ that is vocal too. The classic Brazilian Jazz of his ‘Captain Barcardi’ completes a fine album that demands listening from beginning to end.
