Lalah Hathaway’s Stax debut ‘Self Portrait’ was one of the highlights of 2008, on ‘Where It All Begins’, there are glimpses of that brilliance on ‘Small of My Back’ a great track that starts slow and builds into a great groove, and the mid tempo ‘Where it All Begins’, ‘This Could Be Love’ and the cover of her father’s ‘You Were Meant For Me’. The uptempo ‘If You Want To’will keep the feet moving, but on the rest of the album Lalah is aiming for a wider more commercial audience, which may not be what her existing fans were hoping for.
