‘White Rabbit’ is a gem of a record in the CTI Records and George Benson discography. Recorded in November 1971, arranger Don Sebesky places Benson’s distinctive guitar in a lush Spanish setting. Brilliant covers of the Mamas And The Papas’ ‘California Dreaming’ and Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ are highlights. The former became a staple part of Benson’s live performances during his CTI days. The only Benson original, the 11-minute ‘El Mar’ is a masterpiece and features a 17-year old Earl Klugh. The cast is star studded and includes Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Hubert Laws, Airto and Billy Cobham. Superb.
