Quincy Jones recorded his classic album ‘You Got It Bad Girl’ in 1973. It includes covers of some contemporary Soul tracks, plus some soundtrack themes that Quincy was well known for. By far the standout cut is an amazing transformation of the Lovin Spoonful 60s brash hit ‘Summer In The City’  which Quincy reincarnates as a subtle slinky mid tempo gem featuring some great organ from Eddie Louis, electric piano from Dave Grusin and so soulful vocals from Valerie Simpson. She also sings on the tribute to Aretha and Roberta Flack with versions of ‘Daydreamin’ and ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’. Steve’s ‘You Got It Bad Girl’ is given a lusher sound featuring Quincy on vocals to make a really nice version,  whilst he also covers ‘Superstition’. The Latin classic ‘Manteca’ is given a funkier approach but doesn’t challenge 50s and 60s versions. Nice album worth investigating especially for the opening cut.
