Spice recorded their only album ‘Let There Be Spice’ in 1976 for the infamous NY label TSG, a subsidiary of LPG (Lloyd Price) owned by boxing promoter Don King. Like all releases on the label they were only distributed in small quantities in local areas of The Bronx and are now very rare and collectable , original copies now fetch £1000. The album includes the standout Jazz-funk groover ‘Happy Music’ and the Brass Construction sounding funky groove ‘Do It Nice’. ‘What Do I Mean’ is another uptempo soul cut whilst ‘I’m Glad To Say’ and ‘You Got Me Girl’ are also nice bright upper mid tempo soul floaters. ‘Don’t Fight It’ and ‘Fool In Love’ are sweet soul ballads. Singers Cedric Clements and Richard Brown also appeared on Johnny Melfi ‘Sun Sun Sun’ disco album the following year whilst drummer Leroy Clouden had a long career appearing on albums by Herbie Mann, Robin Kenyatta, Donald Fagen and Steely Dan amongst many others. Limited edition remastered reissue.
