Bobbi Humphrey – Blacks and Blues | Album Of The Day

‘Blacks And Blues’ was flautist Bobbi Humphrey’s first collaboration with the Mizell Brothers. It delivered probably her finest album with cuts like the gritty Funk of ‘Chicago Damn’, the typically Mizell riff laden classic ‘Harlem River Drive’ and the much sampled ‘Jasper Country Man’. The album mixes Funk and Jazz in an intoxicating brew characteristic of the year it was recorded – 1973. Her solos excel throughout and are accompanied by a top draw rhythm section that includes drummer Harvey Mason and bassist Chuck Rainey. Essential for lovers of Jazz Funk.
