There are some great new releases, reissues and compilations this week.
First up our good friend Ledisi is back with a new album, an excellent tribute to Dinah Washington illustrating the beauty of her voice, available on CD and LP, and including a duet with Gregory Porter. The popular ‘Soul on the Real Side’ returns with volume 16, featuring 20 Modern and Northern soul tracks.
Bobby Hutcherson’s superb Latin-Fusion album ‘Montara’ gets a Blue Note Tone Poet 180gm analogue release. John Coltrane’s spiritual epic ‘A Love Supreme’ also gets an analogue 180gm release of the rare Mono version. Tramp’s interesting Peace Chant series reaches vol 8 with more obscure ethereal jazz tracks. There is a nice comp of UK Street Soul and Boogie now on cd, and Derobert’s excellent ‘Soul in a digital world’, a welcome repress. Vince Guaraldi’s unsurpassed ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’ is available again in four limited edition versions.
