Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces The Mizell brothers produced some great jazz funk albums in the early to mid 70’s and were most associated with Donald Byrd and this classic 1975 album in particular. Their joyful heavily orchestrated backing tracks framed the lead instrument to create a total sound. Trumpetter Donald had recorded many great albums for Blue Note in the previous 10 years this one was probably his most accessible. The supporting cast of musicians incl Harvey Mason, Chuck Rainey, Skip Scarborough and King Erricson play note perfect. The uptempo ‘Change’ sets the tone, the beautiful mid tempo ‘Wind...
Ty Causey from Indiana has become one of the most consistent and regularly recorded independent Soul artists over the past 15 years. He seems to manage to release an album each year and maintain his style and quality. 'U Turn' is slightly more upbeat than some of his recent albums. The title track 'U Turn' is a lovely slinky upper mid tempo groover featuring Monet Cherise on flute. 'Contagious' is an upper tempo funky groover ft Nigel Lowis and definitely on the one, as is the equally funky 'Soul Train' . 'Let Your Love Rain Down' is a nice mid tempo stepper'as,is the hypnotic 'Too...

Bruno Mars teams up with Anderson Paak for an evening with Silk Sonic, which musically has its roots in 70's Harmony Soul. The ever consistent Ty Causey returns with 'U Turn' which sounds like one of his better albums with some more uptempo grooves. Former Nicola Conte vocalist Melaine Charles finally makes a full album It's a tribute to female Jazz vocalists 'Y'all Don't Really Care About Black women' covering some classic songs from the Verve catalogue, a few of them mixed with the original vocals and rather good !. Elaine Elias has a new album on CD, pre-order the delayed LP. Bad...

Have a look at our current stock of Gil Scott Heron albums on both Vinyl and CD formats.
Trumpeter Theo Croker returns with another interesting album which combines Futuristic Jazz with the tradition, Soul and Rap featuring many guest musicians and vocalists. ‘Soul Call || Vibrate’ follows the path of his previous albums, a nice mid tempo instrumental. ‘Every Part Of Me’ was co-written by Ego Ella May who performs background vocals, Ari Lennox taking lead vocals on this atmospheric Neo Soul tune. Charlotte Dos Santos sings on ‘Lucid Dream’ a multi paced song, and Malaya on the more upbeat bouncy ‘Happy Feet (For Dancers)’. Gary Bartz joins on Alto and Soprano Saxes on the mellow spiritual floater...

Belgium might not be a country that you might not associate with Jazz music. However there was some really good Progressive Jazz recorded there especially between 1968-1979, the subject of this compilation. Keyboardist Marc Moulin is the most well known Belgian Jazz musician of this time and he has two tracks featured, 'S.U.S' a nice mid paced fusion track by his band Placebo and the break beat synth led 'Tohubohu'. Solis Lacus contribute the title track 'Utopic Cities' a nice and moody seven minute atmospheric groove. Open Sky Unit 'Open Sky' is an off beat vocal track that found favour...
