LEON HAYWOOD – A MELLOW KINDA FELLOW Soul singer, producer and songwriter Leon Haywood passed away in his sleep on 5th April 2016.  He was 74.  Born, Otha Leon Haywood in Houston Texas on 11th February 1942, he listened to blues extensively as a child and was playing piano by the age of four.    An accomplished pianist he played with a local Blues band and accompanied the likes of Guitar Slim.   In the early 60’s he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued playing with R&B/ Blues groups until he joined Sam Cooke’s band, with whom he remained until...

Recommended new releases – 24th March 2016

New releases Its another strong week for releases with some great Soul and Jazz albums again this week. Anthony Hamilton and Jahiem return with their first albums in a few years. The Bobby Caldwell Babyface and Harold Mabern albums are now available on Vinyl as well as CD. Snowboy returns with a great Latin Jazz album, and there are good Jazz albums from Brian Bromberg, Chris Standring and Darren Rahn. Check out this list of 84 Japanese Limited Edition Cd's that we have in stock, featuring Motown and Atlantic/Warner titles. Japanese pressings are usually superior to UK and USA pressings.
