Plush is an essential boogie album from 1982, produced by Rene Moore, Angela Winbush and Bobby Watson from Rufus. It features Siedah Garrett on female vocals who later came to fame with Dennis Edwards and Michael Jackson. ‘Burning Love’ , ‘Free and Easy’ and ‘Coast To Coast’ are synth bass led dancers. ‘Livin For Your Love’ is an uptempo groover, ‘Strangers Again’ a nice mellow groove and ‘We’ve Got The Love’ a good 2 stepper. This week we have a great bunch of new reissues. First on the list is Prelusion by Patrice Rushen, a stellar debut jazz album from 1974 that showcases her incredible talents as a jazz pianist. Next is Azar Lawrences album 'People Moving', a good Jazz Funk album from 1976 featuring Patrice, Mtume and Harvey Mason. Plush's only album from 1982 produced by Rene and Angela and Bobby Watson is heavily in demand and a welcome reissue on the Music on vinyl label., who also reissue Chocolate Milk 'Action Speaks Louder' , George Benson 'White Rabbit' and the rare Dom Salvador...
Patrice Rushen's Prelusion marks her dazzling debut into the jazz world, originally released in 1974 on Prestige Records and now reissued on vinyl here in 2024. Before her R&B fame, Rushen showcased her talents as a jazz pianist on this album, backed by luminaries like Joe Henderson on saxophone. The record effortlessly blends post-bop with elements of jazz fusion, highlighting Rushen's versatility across acoustic and electric keyboard. Her performances on acoustic piano and electric keyboards reflect a strong influence from Herbie Hancock, evident in tracks such as 'Haw-Right Now' and 'Shortie's Portion.' Despite her shift to R&B in 1978, Prelusion...

For new releases this week we have the brilliant album from Cornell CC Carter 'Expressions Of Soul', this is his fifth studio and certainly one of his strongest albums. We also have a new album from Nat Birchall, this time with a very interesting reggae album, not dissimilar to great albums by Jackie Mittoo and Ernst Ranglin. Elsewhere there is a nice latin funk album from Mestizo Beat, a good uptempo disco album from Nikka Costa plus a great new release from duo Alicia and Michael Olatuja. Finally, the marvellous Jalen Ngonda is out with a brilliant 45 with two...
The Cornell CC Carter LP finally here! Cornell CC Carter hails from San Francisco, and processes a really soulful voice. His music recalls an earlier age of soul music with a good time feel. His fifth album 'Expressions Of Soul' is one of his strongest to date. 'The Change' is a memorable upper mid tempo 80s style Soulful song that grooves along nicely. 'Everyday' 'Holding Back' 'Its So Nice' and 'Sometimes' (with Brian Power) are good contemporary dancers with a hint of The 80s. The cover of Marvin 'Come Get To This' and the mid tempo floater 'Never Gonna Waste...
