The urgent, driving cover of Curtis’ ‘Billy Jack’ is a triumph, the smooth, jazzy ‘You’re Everything’ brings the sunshine while Mayfield in mined again on the airy ‘We’re A Winner’. ‘Stairway To The Stars’ is an eastern-vibe jazz instrumental, ‘Brooklyn Blues’ again ploughs a deep jazz vein while Bailey’s ever searching ear alights on Talking Heads’ ‘Once In A Lifetime’ on an experimental, spacey jazz interpretation. ‘Sacred Sounds’ sees a collaboration between Glasper and Washington on a track that would fit on either artist’s albums while ‘Long As You’re Living’ is a return to the vocal cuts with a casual, matter of fact jazz lounge delivery. Lots of blurred boundaries here that will appeal to many.
